The Call that
Changed My Life

I remember getting the most unexpected phone call from my doctor. It was Thursday July 15th at about 1 PM, saying, how are you feeling after your surgery?

Then she said the words, “I’m sorry…” and my world went into slow-motion…. “to bring you the bad news. The polyp was cancerous.”

Then she said the words “oncologist”… “discussing treatment options”… “Monday…” and “total hysterectomy.”

The conversation was a blur. And the weekend following, long and emotional, before my husband, Jaime and I met my GYN/ ONC, and could start getting answers…

Voices of Support

True Champion

“Anne is a true champion – a speaker that delivers results! Her slides were excellent! I am very fortunate that she was a part of the planning board and panel. This conference started with our keynote, influencer, filmmaker and patient advocate, Jennifer Brea, who was amazing and ended with you, Dr. Anne Arvizu! You did an amazing job in tying all the threads together…the patient aspect was heard!”

September is Gynecological Cancer Awareness Month!

Can you name all 5 gynecological cancers off the top of your head? Do you know what color all their ribbons are?

Neither did I. And I was a healthcare expert! My name is Dr. Anne Arvizu, I’m a pharmacist, and spent 25 years as a medical information executive in the pharmaceutical industry. Eighteen of those years were in oncology research and data dissemination, so when I was diagnosed, I knew what EC was, but I quickly realized MOST people around me didn’t.

Women didn’t even know their own body parts! As an information expert, I fumed at the fact that there was not enough detail online that pertained to me, a gaggle of data to sift through for answers I’d never find and no support groups outside of facebook. Now, as a public health educator, I’m founded this blog to edify patients advocating for themselves and raise awareness. I am happy to share my story as a #survivor and teach about EC as an official experienced expert. I’ll share my story, top tips for women going through the journey, and helpful hints for Healthcare Providers and organizations.
